For parts of five decades Brooks combined her love of photography with a love of travel. In 2003 she resolved to make a serious commitment to photography.
Her camera has taken her to Southeast Asia, India, Europe and Mexico. By 2005 a measure of her success was the repeated licensing of an image by National Geographic.
In 2006 Brooks expanded her interest to documentary photojournalism. In 2007 she was invited to participate in the Missouri Photo Workshop sponsored by University of Missouri’s School of Journalism.
In addition to photojournalism, Brooks is known for the art photography notecards and framed prints, available in her San Rafael studio year-round.
In December 2009 Brooks reintroduced jewelry to her San Rafael studio as well as online.
